A UN spokesman sorta blames global warming.
The Mail & Guardian (South Africa) reports:
A violent storm killed six people in Durban and Pietermaritzburg on Sunday night and destroyed scores of homes.
The extreme weather, which struck hours before the opening of the UN climate change conference in Durban, caused flooding and widespread damage.
At a Monday news conference, UN climate chief Christiana Figueres said, according to Politico:
“What we witnessed last night was unseasonable weather for Durban and it is the type of unseasonable weather we are seeing all over the world as greenhouse gas concentrations continue to rise”…
“I’m not saying that storm is the direct effect of climate change,” she cautioned, although she referenced a recent report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change that linked worsening weather events with global warming.
But the storm underscores the need for nations to act, Figueres said.

Never let an opportunity go by. It would have been a similar statement if Durban just had 10 inches of snow.
