It looks like Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum has been reading JunkScience.com and Steve Milloy’s “Green Hell: How Environmentalists Plan to Control Your Life and What You Can Do to Stop Them.”
On JunkScience.com fan Rush Limbaugh’s radio show yesterday, Santorum said,
To me, [climate alarmism] is an opportunity for the left to create — it’s really a beautifully concocted scheme because they know that the earth is gonna cool and warm. And so it’s been on a warming trend so they said, ‘Oh, let’s take advantage of that and say that we need the government to come in and regulate your life some more because it’s getting warmer.’ Just like they did in the ’70s when it was getting cooler. They needed the government to come in and regulate your life because it’s getting cooler. It’s just an excuse for more government control of your life. And I’ve never been for any scheme or even accepted the junk science behind the whole narrative.
We give Santorum an “A” for understanding something that few Republican politicians do; he gets a “plus” for having the guts to say it.
And using Mitt Romney, the Washiington Post uses the townhall episode to make its own propaganda point.
Though we don’t agree with the implications, the QUESTIONER at the Town hall, though he doesn’t ‘get it,’ asked an honest political question:
“Nearly all other candidates suggest that there’s no scientific consensus on climate change. Some insist it’s not even occurring. We can’t have a meaningful discussion about solutions until there’s agreement about the problem. Will you, sir, state now that under a Romney administration, global warming will be accepted as reality, and this reality will form the foundation for all climate energy policies?”
And here is how the Washington Post framed it in their first line:

Do you see the blatant difference between the Post’s coverage and the man’s question?
Santorum may not be far from right.

It would seem Santorum understands this instinctively, and has come down firmly on the side of those who do not want to be controllers, or to be controlled.
As a friend used to tell me, “It doesn’t matter whether you are on the left side of the road or the right, if you are going the wrong way.”
