The New York Times and reporter John Broder get partial credit for spotlighting Al Gore’s climate profiteering on the front-page of today’s paper.
Unfortunately the article offers really lame justifications for Gore’s self-serving alarmism.
Gore only responded to the Times in an e-mail:
Mr. Gore says that he is simply putting his money where his mouth is.
“Do you think there is something wrong with being active in business in this country?” Mr. Gore said. “I am proud of it. I am proud of it.”
In an e-mail message this week, he said his investment activities were consistent with his public advocacy over decades.
Or is it that he’s putting his mouth where his money is?
Don’t forget that Al Gore testified before the House last spring that he has no profit motive. As reported by Broder:
But at the hearing in April, he was challenged by Ms. Blackburn, who echoed some of the criticism of Mr. Gore that has swirled in conservative blogs and radio talk shows. She noted that Mr. Gore is a partner at Kleiner Perkins, which has hundreds of millions of dollars invested in firms that could benefit from any legislation that limits carbon dioxide emissions.
“I believe that the transition to a green economy is good for our economy and good for all of us, and I have invested in it,” Mr. Gore said, adding that he had put “every penny” he has made from his investments into the Alliance for Climate Protection.
“And, Congresswoman,” he added, “if you believe that the reason I have been working on this issue for 30 years is because of greed, you don’t know me.”
It was apparently “a bridge too far” for Broder to notice that Gore’s House testimony is entirely inconsistent with Gore’s e-mail to the Times.
Readers of this blog will recall that it was this Steve Milloy column in Human Events that prompted Rep. Marsha Blackburn to ask Gore about his profiteering. But rather than saying he was “putting his money where his mouth was,” Gore chose to dissemble, if not outright lie, to Congress.
And let’s not forget about Gore’s feigned ignorance before Congress of his relationship with Goldman Sachs.
justbeau is right about Gore being the new Madoff. The carbon trading market is real and has oversight. Gore is invested in the sale of (unregulated) carbon credits as well as Green companies whose success or failure influence the value of carbon futures. Furthermore as a former VP and person who receives Secret Service protection and things of that nature he is NOT your average Joe citizen. His influence and party connections are more capapble of steering legislation that will benefit these companies than those of the average lobbyist or advocate. And when challenged on the ethics of this clear conflict of interest he gives one answer to congress and another to the private sector. You tell me what INNOCENT person changes their story like this?
As I see it the writing is on the wall. And the only thing that has prevented him from being tried like Madoff is the fact that there is no legal precedent set for his exact type. In other words our legal system was never prepared for a VP leaving office and using his influence to make personal profits off of selling out his nation to global governance.
Here’s hoping such preparations are now underway…
“Mr. Gore is not a lobbyist, and he has never asked Congress or the administration for an earmark or policy decision that would directly benefit one of his investments. But he has been a tireless advocate for policies that would move the country away from the use of coal and oil, and he has begun a $300 million campaign to end the use of fossil fuels in electricity production in 10 years.”
WTF? Don’t they still use copy editors at the NYT? This is the most risible thing I’ve read in the paper in days.
I don’t know if the Goreacle is a greedhead (he, just like you and me, is merely struggling for the legal tender) but he definitely has a lust for power. IMO he’s Exhibit A for any one wishing to know what a sanctimonius professional politician looks like.
Al’s done good for a Tennessee boy with a mediocre GPA from Harvard, don’t you think?
Everyone should calm down. There is good news. Gore’s money gluttony is worse than the excesses of Wall Street bankers.
Gore would be much more respectable and politically dangerous if he lived a simple, modest life. He could go round and oversee elections in troubled places, or he could build houses for others, like Jimmy Carter.
But instead, Mr. Gore monumentally profits from his own accusations. This does little to help his credibility, because everyday people, being smarter than many eco-scientists, will not like the smell of that.
Mr. Gore is sowing the seeds of the destruction of his own reputation. Someday he may be viewed as the new Bernie Madoff.
Maybe this is why he is urgently trying to cash in now.
We are fast headed down the worm-hole to the world of “Metropolis”. Only there will be no happy ending, as there was in the novel and of course, in the film.
This is so monstrous that it may be no human alive can really get his or her mind around all of it. But someone has to try.
And then, some kind of action must be taken, and I believe it must be taken here in the USA. For if we do not do it, no other Nation on the planet has any kind of chance whatsoever against these bastards: the globalista Bankstah Gangstahs!!
Algore is using the false hypothesis of human caused Global Warming to enrich himself from the passing of cap and trade legislation. This appears illegal because of the claimed purpose of Cap and Trade is to protect the world from the falsely demonized gas CO2, released by man’s use of fossil fuels. CEI (Competitive Enterprise Institute) has recently released an exhaustive study showing scientific proof that CO2 has “no significant effect on the global climate.” In May 2008, over 30,000 US
scientists submitted a petition to our Senate
with an identical conclusion. This is the worst corruption of science we have ever had to deal with.
No. It is not just greed. It is authoritarian power based upon pseudo-science of the worst order. In fact, “green” has been turned into one of the most false religions ever to afflict mankind, because a Supreme Being, in whatever way, is not at the center of this “religion”. TheAlGore is just one of the oligarchs that pulls the strings of the ersatz “president” Barry O. And Barry O. will do anything for wealth and power himself. This has got to give somewhere, sometime. In the meantime, all I can do is live a day at a time.
