Dear Al Gore,
How will the Waxman-Markey bill — legislation that you have endorsed — save the planet from the disaster that you claim is imminent?
Humanity is sitting on a ticking time bomb. If the vast majority of the world’s scientists are right, we have just ten years to avert a major catastrophe that could send our entire planet into a tail-spin of epic destruction involving extreme weather, floods, droughts, epidemics and killer heat waves beyond anything we have ever experienced. [Emphasis added]
But under the fantasy emission-reduction scenario of the Waxman-Markey bill, the U.S. would reduce its greenhouse gas emissions from more than 7 billion tons today to about 5.6 billion tons in 2020 — the level at which U.S. greenhouse gas emissions were in 1988 when NASA’a James Hansen famously sounded the alarm about global warming in congressional testimony.
So in a sense, after ten years of Waxman-Markey we’d only be back at square one.
Meanwhile, worldwide CO2 emissions are projected to increase from about 30 billion tons in 2009 to about 37 billion tons in 2020. Even if the Waxman-Markey fantasy came true and U.S. emissions were reduced by 1.4 billion tons, worldwide CO2 emissions would still increase to about 35.6 billion tons annually.
Pray tell, Mr. Gore, how will Waxman-Markey avert the “major catastrophe” that you say we only have ten years to avoid?
And while you’re spinning the answer to that one, Mr. Gore, would it be possible to get a list of your investments that would benefit from the Waxman-Markey bill?
Sincerely,
Your friends at JunkScience.com
Arafat was an unrepentant terrorist, and Al Gore is in the company he deserves by sharing in the same prize that waa also given to Jimminy Carter.
Civil discourse is for civil people, not those who’s beliefs are so dangerously (and maliciously) at odds with reality.
Yasser Arafat winning the nobel prize makes a ton of sense!! same as Nelson Mandela, and Jimmy Carter winning. Al Gore just so happened to win the nobel peace prize too. A fool is to believe someone for what they say. A smart person looks at what the person says and what his/ her objectives are, and then see them put into action. Bush and Clinton did this ok, but many politicians don’t, unlike Gore. He started environmental hearings in the ’80s to get a head start! the problem was not many people wanted to listen. He truly wants to help future generations out and stop this problem. He’s not stealing and taking people’s money. He backs up a handful of non profit organizations that have put a dent in the climate crisis and raised awareness. He’s done more than most ex- Vice Presidents have done, and in a positive way.
And yonason, I would like you to seriously take into consideration that when I express my ideas, I do not express hate at you or others the way you have. Just tell me your ideas and facts. We are Americans, despite our political views.
seenaghost has mush for brains, or pond scum (that’s green, sometimes).
Al Gore “brilliant?”
Oh, stop! That’s about as funny as “Yasser Arafat is a man of peace.” (they were both awarded a Nobel “peace prize” for stuff they never did – so, yeah, I guess they do deserve each others company, as they are soul mates in perversion of truth.)
Face it, Gore is a swindler. He wants to steal our money, and make us happy he did. You are a fool if you believe him (or are you his publicist?).
I invite you to take the test…

…lets see how “brilliant” you are (like I don’t already know the answer to that).
I don’t agree with this at all. I back up AL Gore most of the time because he is a brilliant man. He’s smart because he knows that if he pushes too hard, society will get mad and revolt against these ideas. He’s saying let’s get back to ground zero and then work forward to cutting everything to zero. America is almost ready to become green, but it needs more motivation. The new sign of patriotism it to be GREEN!!!
Also about your book; do you want America to fail? Do you not want us to lead by environmentalism?
Steve,
It’s worth noting that according to Al Gore we no longer have “10 years left to avert a major catastrophe” – since Al Gore uttered those words a few years ago.
According to Rush Limbaugh’s Algore Doomsday Clock, it’s down to 6 years, 8 months, 8 days, 6 hours, and 42 minutes.
“Pray tell, Mr. Gore, how will Waxman-Markey avert the ‘major catastrophe’…?”
OK, I’ll answer that rhetorical question. Depends on what the meaning of “catastrophe” is. If it’s Gore missing the gravy train for all the tax-free fee gelt, then yah, it’ll be a major catastrophe for HIM, as Steve Milloy well knows. If Gore gets what he wants, we’re all screwed.
File under- questions the media will never ask Algore.
Delightfully snarky. Love it. Keep up the good work.
