  1. Hannah: 10+ years ago, the Economist was clear-minded on eco-topics. It has since become foggy minded, willing to uncritically accept trendy drivel. Maybe the Economist has sucked up to the Labor party by going dopey on the environment. Its a genuine loss for a fine publication and its readership.

  2. Steve has a major obstacle to overcome: the vast number of people who have been sucked into the green movement were sure they were doing good work and have developed an emotional connection to it. I am a scientist who has tried to present factual analyses of CO2 to show how it could not drive global warming and have elicited vehement objections, not factual but instead emotional and irrational in nature.
It is OK for the folks who are non-scientist to have been fooled by an overpowering political propaganda machine. Now we have a big job to do in not just correcting the misinformation but also smoothing many ruffled feathers.
It is important to understand that Steve’s material is all scientifically valid, not opinion, unless otherwise noted. Science is always a matter of facts that everyone can agree upon as being true. Then some conclusions can be drawn, more facts discovered and on it goes.
The political perversion of science represented by the greens is disgusting and is not the way that science is done.

  3. Hi,
I am watching you right now on C-span. I don’t agree with a lot of what you are saying. But more specifically, I find the article you reference claiming that we have nothing to worry about landfills to be unreliable. I would suggest you look more into the issue. There was an excellent article in the Economist issue of Feb. 28th 2009 about the issue of global waste management. I would also suggest the books Garbage in the Cities and The Sanitary City both my Martin Melosi.
Actually, I disagree with you so much, I might just go out and buy your book.
