Dream on: Obama’s high-speed rail lines

CNN reports,

President Obama unveiled his administration’s blueprint for a new national network of high-speed passenger rail lines Thursday, saying such an investment is necessary to reduce traffic congestion, cut dependence on foreign oil and improve the environment.

The greens oppose transmission lines for renewable energy projects. So let’s just say that I’m a tad skeptical of them allowing new rail lines to be constructed. Remember, the greens don’t want you traveling; they want you locked in your planned community box. And remember the green whose idea of travel was staying home and exploring yourself?

  1. Yada, yada, yada. How beneficial to the environment would electric trains be if 50% of our energy comes from coal?!

Now, get a few thousand more nuclear power plants online and humming away–then let’s talk about the completely superfluous waste of resources that major cross-continental commuter rail service would be.

So long as Southwest can sell you a coach round trip ticket to anywhere for under $200, who the HELL is going to take Amtrak cross country? No one. It is the black hole of public works projects and should be NO WHERE NEAR the top of the priority list of a nation on the brink of fiscal collapse.

  2. Obama meet Schwarzenegger. Electricity is very clean where you use it. But it’s not so clean where you generate it.

Let’s not even mention the totally unreasonable cost of such a thing.
