Moving on their success in slowing, if not halting the construction of new coal-fired power plants across the country, the green are setting their sights on existing plants.
Carbon Control News reported that a Sierra Club official told a March 14 meeting of the American Bar Association that,
“The next thing in the environmental community is how do we start shutting down old plants . . . and replace those with energy efficiency or renewable power… That’s where our efforts are focused now.”
“Old,” of course, is a euphemism for “existing.” A plant could have been built yesterday, but if it burns coal the greens want you to think it was built 50 years ago.
Carbon Control News further reported that,
[The Sierra Club official] said that he and other environmentalists plan to use a combination of strict emissions mandates to address air quality and climate change—such as new national ambient air quality standards (NAAQS) and first-time rules on carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions—to make traditional coal-fired electricity generating units (EGUs) “dinosaurs” that need to be shut down and replaced with energy efficiency and renewable energy generation.
The greens also plan to make coal waste disposal more difficult:
… environmentalists say the potential regulation of coal combustion waste (CCW) as a hazardous substance could also contribute to the activists’ overall effort to curtail the use of coal-generated power by making the business less profitable because of disposal costs.

Yup,
Coal is not just plentiful, but abundant in the extreme in the US. Likewise shale oil. But, those have both been found to be “unacceptable” the the greenies.
Nuclear is likewise shunned. Even biofuels have become passe. Only wind and solar are now acceptable.
This means the abandonment of 99% of the total energy sources now available in return for the most expensive and unreliable energy sources now known to mankind.

But we all know this is just a lie. Not surprisingly they don’t actually want nuclear. It’s like a child who refuses to eat his broccoli, claiming he wants brussel sprouts, which he knows aren’t around. Magically produce some brussel sprouts and he suddenly won’t want those either. These same people claim to want a better world. When will we AS ADULTS stop participating in this game. Millions are dying in Africa from diseases we could cure or prevent, or from a lack of basic services that some idealists decided it was better for them not to have.
THERE ARE NO RENEWABLE TECHONOLOGIES TO REPLACE COAL. Is there one sorry son of a bitch working in one single government that has the twig and berries to merely speak this truth? Because I’m going to keep punching new boxes on that ballot sheet until I find one. And I urge you to do the same. It has to stop. All of it. The lies to make people rich and the lies to keep the rest of us primitive. We have the tools to create cheap renewable and near endless power RIGHT NOW. We have the ability to explore the far reaches of our solar system and mine it for all the endless resources it has to offer. Instead we base the political objectives of whole nations on things that will never happen, nor be as good as what we could already be doing even if they did. We are committed to being a world of small minded small thinkers who will continue to do small things…poorly.
