It seems that betting against the “consensus” of left-wing academics, regulatory-state bureaucrats and anti-capitalist activists can be a rather profitable sideline. First nuclear power, and now peak oil. At the rate George Monbiot is changing his mind, we’ll all soon agree that the disaster of the peak oil non-disaster is not much of a disaster after all. Tom Gray: Petro-State Of California Needs Crude Awakening
By refusing to tap much of the oil wealth off its shoreline, California is forgoing a resource that could go far to revive its economy and bring state and local governments back to fiscal health. Continue reading
Are Chemical Dispersants Used to Clean Up Oil Spills Actually Toxic?
It is common knowledge that oil spills are harmful to the environment, yet in the rush to clean them up we could be doing more damage; at least that is what certain environmental groups fear. Continue reading
George Osborne: Britain Must Be More Attractive To ‘Remarkable’ Oil And Gas Industry
George Osborne will promise to make Britain an “even more attractive place” for the oil and gas industry in a blow to Liberal Democrat ambitions to shift away from fossil fuels. Continue reading

Robert Bradley Jr.: Energy Freedom Bus Tour: Hitting the Open Road for Consumers, Taxpayers, and Common Sense
“We will take the vision for affordable energy, common sense regulation, and safe technology to the American people; then return to Washington D.C. to deliver the message — it’s time to free the American people from costly, unnecessary regulations and bureaucracy. It’s time for Washington to untie the hands of American energy producers and manufacturers, and free these job creators to put our country back to work again.” Continue reading
Petrobras: A Shadow of its Former Self
Back in 2008 Goldman Sachs listed Petrobras’ share price at $60, now-a-days it commands $20 a share, and we expect that price to fall further in the coming days. The Brazilian oil giant just is not what it was. Continue reading

Art Horn: Will The Rising Oceans Be Our Downfall?
The night was almost four years ago. Candidate Obama had defeated John McCain. This victory was to introduce a new and magnificent period of “hope and change” to America. The bad old Republicans and their money grubbing ways had been swept into the past. The changes to come would be breathtaking! There would be so much hope and so much change that, according to the new President his election signaled that “This was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal”. Oil Companies Still Hiding the True Risks of Deepwater Drilling from Investors
“Oil and gas companies are doing a terrible job of disclosing climate and deepwater drilling risks, even in light of the tragic Gulf of Mexico oil spill, according to a new report.“
Well they really can’t quantify “climate risks” because we really don’t know when it will really turn cold, although the sun is suggesting it could be soon. If they mean carbon dioxide then that is a completely synthetic “risk” best listed under environmental obstructionism and really, what are the companies supposed to do? There are laws as well as moral objections to shooting even the most misanthropic greenies and how would a company quantify “looney green risk”? They’re just a damned nuisance that must be worked around if they can’t be avoided. Continue reading
Canada needs energy diversity: federal documents
“A dependence on fossil fuel resources is making the country vulnerable to a planetary “mega trend” toward low-carbon energy that “will affect the whole of Canada’s economy,” Natural Resources Minister Joe Oliver was told in newly released internal briefing notes.“
What makes them think “low-carbon” is anything but a flash in the pan? Global warming hysteria looks increasingly desperate and ridiculous and more carbon resources are coming online by the day. Carbon-dense power will be with us for decades if not centuries yet. Continue reading

President Obama’s Energy Outlook Is Far Too Sunny
The administration refuses to increase the amount of federal land open to oil and gas drilling. But it is happy to unlock public land for another energy source. It just happens to be one that doesn’t work well. Continue reading
Shell takes key step on scaled-back Alaska drilling
Shell on Tuesday began preparations to install anchors at the site of one of its planned wells in the Chukchi Sea north of Alaska — a major step toward launching a new era of Arctic oil exploration, even as the company has been forced to scale back its drilling plans. Continue reading

China Zeros in on Canadian Oil, but It’s Not About Sovereignty
China’s $15.1 billion bid to acquire Canada’s Nexen oil company threatens to turn China into a owner rather just a major buyer of Canadian oil, and prompts a surge in nationalist rhetoric that is attempting, misguidedly, to bring up the question of sovereignty. Continue reading

America Should Establish An Energy Market Of Its Very Own
A little more than a year ago, we editorialized in favor of a “North American oil market that would operate independently of a world market.” Would that be possible? A fresh report tells us it is. Continue reading
