Critics Say California Law Hurts Effort to Add Jobs

Environmentalists in this greenest of places call the California Environmental Quality Act the state’s most powerful environmental protection, a model for the nation credited with preserving lush wetlands and keeping condominiums off the slopes of the Sierra Nevada.

But the landmark law passed in 1970 has also been increasingly abused, opening the door to lawsuits — sometimes brought by business competitors or for reasons unrelated to the environment — that, regardless of their merit, can delay even green development projects for years or sometimes kill them completely. Nutrient-boosted Golden Rice should be embraced

ONE of the more unedifying aspects of the fight over genetically modified food has been the unbending opposition of Greenpeace and others to rice that has been modified to help prevent blindness. Golden Rice contains a precursor of vitamin A, deficiency of which blinds an estimated half a million children every year. Continue reading

Matt Ridley: Apocalypse Not: Here’s Why You Shouldn’t Worry About End Times

Who or what will cause the 2012 apocalypse? This is the question posed by the website 2012apocalypse.net. “super volcanos? pestilence and disease? asteroids? comets? antichrist? global warming? nuclear war?” the site’s authors are impressively open-minded about the cause of the catastrophe that is coming at 11:11 pm on december 21 this year. but they have no doubt it will happen. after all, not only does the Mayan Long Count calendar end that day, but “the sun will be aligned with the center of the Milky Way for the first time in about 26,000 years.” Case closed: Sell your possessions and live for today. Another drag on the economy. Anti-capitalists have succeeded beyond their wildest dreams with this ridiculous assault on affordable energy. The Debate: Should we be doing more to combat climate change?

The Indy is asking whether greenies have been effective over the last 50 years.

Viewed honestly I’d have to say the misanthropy movement has been inordinately successful impeding human development. However, for their claimed cover purpose of “protecting humanity and the environment” they are the worst of pretenders, claiming credit for industrial development and cleaner industry that was well underway and would have happened more quickly and efficiently without anti capitalist saboteurs interfering at every step.

So yes on their true antisocial purpose and not even close on their alleged aims of making the world a better place. Continue reading
