Duke Energy CEO Picks Obama Over Romney on Energy

Gosh, a rent-seeking subsidy farmer prefers the Obama Administration over having to actually produce anything and compete in the open market. Go figure… Continue reading

Robert Bradley Jr.: Crony Capitalism in the U.S. Energy Industry: A Brief Review

America’s energy industries (oil, gas, electricity) have been a bastion of crony capitalism for much of their history. Leading gas and electricity firms sponsored state and then federal public-utility regulation during the Progressive Era and New Deal. Like other so-called public utilities, they welcomed the prospect of making commission-approved “reasonable” profits in an entry-restricted environment rather than taking their chances in open-entry markets. Industry groups sell profit-making, not planet-saving, at GOP convention

The American Petroleum Institute is inescapable here, its name attached to briefings and concerts while its campaign logo adorns free sunglasses and sunscreen. But clean energy is not invisible to Republicans during their quadrennial celebration. Continue reading

Matt Kibbe: Obama’s Crony Capitalist Flip Flop With the Democratic National Convention

In a letter sent to donors and supporters by the Obama campaign last year, First Lady Michelle Obama promised that the 2012 Democratic National Convention would be “a different convention for a different time.” Little did we know that the time she was referring to is the Robber Baron era. Continue reading

Ties to Obama Aided in Access for Big Utility

Early in the Obama administration, a lobbyist for the Illinois-based energy producer Exelon Corporation proudly called it “the president’s utility.” And it was not just because it delivers power to Barack Obama’s Hyde Park neighborhood in Chicago. Continue reading

Big Green Machine – GE makes $21 billion a year on “clean energy”

GE — A clean energy revenue machine – GE is so large that its annual revenue ($150 billion) is greater than New Zealand’s gross domestic product ($140.43 billion). But GE stands to profit in solving man-man global warming, whereas New Zealand will just pay. Continue reading

Tad DeHaven: Cut big business’s corporate welfare

With the federal government closing in on its fourth consecutive budget deficit in excess of $1 trillion, the national debt is hurtling toward dangerous levels. If the nation is to avert a debt crisis, federal policymakers need to aggressively balance revenues. Business subsidies, or “corporate welfare,” are a good place to start. Continue reading

Art Horn: Will The Rising Oceans Be Our Downfall?

The night was almost four years ago. Candidate Obama had defeated John McCain. This victory was to introduce a new and magnificent period of “hope and change” to America. The bad old Republicans and their money grubbing ways had been swept into the past. The changes to come would be breathtaking! There would be so much hope and so much change that, according to the new President his election signaled that “This was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal”. Anyone who follows the news or is unemployed knows the lack of jobs in President Obama’s economy and an exploding $15.9 trillion debt are two of the voters’ top concerns this year, according to all the polls. Continue reading

Ron Arnold: Eagles are soaring into wind energy battle

Free-market advocates have a hard time explaining that being anti-environmentalist is not the same as being anti-environment. Big Green has done such a thorough job of casting itself as nature’s selfless, altruistic guardian that supporters don’t even notice that their rants against “money-grubbing polluters” always end with “Send Money.” Continue reading

Marita Noon: The First Solar Swindle

As we dig deeper in the green-energy crony corruption-story, it begins to sound more and more like the making of a big-budget Hollywood thriller. Continue reading

Selling the carbon tax: individual versus collective self-interest

Garbage. There is no collective good to be had from carbon constraint – the only good is for the select few who run the carbon scams. The collective interest is in the cheapest energy and strongest economy not in the selective enrichment of bankers and traders and “green energy” crony capitalists. Australians don’t want the carbon tax and will vote for the Coalition that has pledged to eliminate it. Get over it. Continue reading

Sixteen House GOP Freshmen Forget Principles in Support of Wind Subsidies

Eighteen freshmen Members of the House of Representatives sent a letter last week to House Republican leaders urging them to “take up an extension of the Production Tax Credit (PTC) for wind energy as soon as possible.”  Sixteen of the eighteen signers are Republicans. House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) also recently announced his support for extending the wind PTC, which is set to expire at the end of the year. Continue reading
