Anthony Watts, who exposed the siting problems and showed ridiculous siting, for example, an hour down the road in Lampasas TX they moved the temp monitor from a rural location to a parking lot. So Watts discusses the better network, but it’s still ground stations.
I always thought that ground stations were too subject to siting problems and choices. altitude, local ground make up and cover, albedo, and such. for example I live about 5 feet higher than the town and in the country, and my temp is always lower that the town reports and the airport. I have no concrete, for example, and I am closer to a lake.
I vote for Roy Spencer and John Christy’s satellites that measure a tropospheric temp.
