The Royal Australian Navy will be biofuel capable in six years.
The RAN is going green so it can continue to work with the US Navy which will be fueled by at least 50% biofuel by 2020. The US reason is that it wants to be assured of a fuel supply in the event of future fuel shortages and to reduce the Navy’s environmental footprint. In a couple years, the US could well be the largest petroleum producer in the world, so how is going to cut us off? The Navy’s job is readiness and to project power, not to project green. It’s nice to know that we have so much money we can afford limited quantity fuel that’s an order of magnitude more expensive than the bad stuff.
