Nicholas Wade proposes ethnic and race orthodoxies are not valid

It’s a genetic/evolutionary/cultural/socioligical issue.

This book review articulates the places where Wade may be overreaching.

I do believe it is a worthwhile area of inquiry. Ethnic/racial differences do exist and to deny the obvious for political correctness is just another example of the tyranny of the bullies.

However there are places where Wade is stretching his hypothesis.

I also have my doubts about any evidence of “evolution” in the short-term. I don’t believe behavior or cultural changes are “evolution.”

Charles Murray, the book reviewer, is a scholar in his own right, a very effective chronicler of educational/economic/social/cultural/ethnic trends.

The 7R allele linked to ADHD/impulsivity, might be one example. Cochran & Harpending note the absence of this in East Asians appears a recent development.

Steve Hsu discusses some other possible examples.

    • Don’t be too impressed with the genomic theories. We don’t know much about what makes what.

In addition, any “evolutionary” developments would have to be genomic changes confirmed by selection.

You don’t really believe selection is in play here, do you? If you do, you fail to see the obvious.

  2. Was shocked to see that the Chicago Tribune reported that Illinois Democrats, specifically their professional educators, declared that Blacks and Hispanics should meet lower education standards than White children in Illinois. Obama, of course, is the top Illinois politician.
