Ask Al Gore and Nancy Pelosi how that worked out.
In his weekly radio address, Obama trie to make global warming an election issue:
If you agree with me, I’ll need you to act. Educate your classmates and colleagues, your family and friends. Speak up in your communities. Remind everyone who represents you, at every level of government, that there is no contradiction between a sound environment and a strong economy – and that sheltering future generations against the ravages of climate change is a prerequisite for your vote.
Dear Mr. President,
Name one climate in the U.S. that has changed. Or tell us which one will change, and what change it will have.
Couple of notes on this.
First, climate change policy should be an issue for voters. Heinlein wrote, “A poet who reads his poems in public may have other nasty habits.” A politician who promotes any policy under the concept of human-caused global warming problems is either a fool or a liar. I hate being a one-issue voter, but CAGW is really several issues and its advocacy is a strong sign of bad ideas on many issues.
Second, that “…educate your classmates…” part can be problematic. I was teaching a class on computer formulas this week and I said that a formula which returns a false answer is the worst outcome. I then used Mann’s hockey stick algorithm as a classic example. Well, that caused one student to comment harshly in the evaluations. My boss didn’t make too big a deal about it — he’s also a skeptic — but it made for a bit of tension when I had the student in the next class.
