WaPo says the anti-Keystone XL “activists have trumped up a relatively mundane infrastructure issue into the premier environmental fight of this decade, leading to big marches and acts of civil disobedience to advance a cause that is worthy of neither.”
The WaPo blew the entire editorial in its last sentence: “As we argued Sunday, a carbon tax is a cause that really is worth fighting for.” They aren’t trying to be reasonable, they’re proposing a deal: trade KXL for general punishment of fossil energy.
Since Obama wants more taxes for his dream of redistribution, he’ll want the tax. Since he wants to crush the Republican party, he’ll want to use the carbon tax issue to paint the Republicans as ‘anti-environment’. With the Green Left’s habit of making collusive deals with the eco-whackos, the Sierra Club’s assigned job is to ramp-up the pipeline hysteria to the point where looks like it takes a *big* concession to them to make them go away/appease them. Republicans who are warmists, or have weak commitments, will find the deal appealing.
My guess is, WaPo’s proposal has a chance, but appeasement never works. The tax will be never be high enough for them, and there’s more than one item on their agenda.

Don’t get your hopes up that these guys are going to magically morph into real journalists. This is just the dutiful drones preparing their defense of Obama in the event that he approves the pipeline. Saw a similar article in the New York Times.
