  1. They must be worried about something.

  2. There is less here than meets the eye. I’ve seen excerpts from the letter and some discussion on other sites.
Some veterans are claiming disability related to mental health issues and some veterans are no longer competent to manage their own affairs. This might be due to Alzheimer’s, other forms of senile dementia, traumatic brain injury or other causes. In some cases, the VA is involved because the pensions are part of the veterans’ financial affairs. The VA may be trying to protect some veterans from being exploited or from wasting their limited funds.
If an individual is determined by a court to be incompetent or is involuntarily committed to a mental facility, the individual is usually prohibited from having firearms. This makes a lot of sense.
Note that a court has to make the actual determination of incompetence. If any bureaucrat at VA claims that authority, the official is wrong. I have no brief or fondness for the Obama team but I think this is a lot of noise over very little.

  3. The DHS is currently running a campaign to buy up all the ammunition in the country so that they have it and the ‘right-wing extremists’ don’t. An approximation of how many rounds of ammunition the DHS has now secured over the last 10 months stands at around 1.625 billion. the DHS has purchased enough bullets over the last 10 months to wage a full scale war for almost 30 years.
It is backfiring (pun intended). People have noticed. They simply cannot be preparing to violently eradicate their own taxpayers. This is an attempt at back-door gun control via ammo control – the idea being that if no ammo is available, nobody will want to buy/use guns. DHS will have them all.

  4. Louis Farrakhan is currently urging violent inner-city gangs to form/rebrand themselves as militia groups to “defend what we have bought or built”. ‘We’ being exactly you-know-who, and ‘defend’ could be no-go zones or worse.

The government is buying ammo as fast as it can, and views veterans as a suspect group.

Arms & ammo suppliers are completely backlogged with civilian purchases and demand.

Are we in an arms race, and how does it all come together in the end?
