  1. We have to work to produce the things other people want in exchange for their produce. As long as we do it voluntarily, it’s commerce rather than slavery. Some people are lucky as I am, having work they like. Others are less lucky, but opportunity is like that.
    We need energy to sustain the lifestyle we’re used to — the one where nearly everyone can read and very few people die of ear infections and stuff like that. We use fossil fuels because they are effective resources. That’s no more “addiction” than is our need for food or air and it’s no more “slavery” than is the need to produce in order to exchange.
