Juliet Eilperin fails to disclose conflict in WaPo puff piece for potential Energy Secretary pick

No wonder the WaPo wants to get rid of its ombudsman (public editor) position.

Today’s WaPo front-page Style section profiles Thomas Steyer as a potential pick for Energy Secretary.

Though Steyer is a long-shot, he is being strongly pushed by Center for American Progress chief John Podesta:

John Podesta, who chairs the liberal think tank Center for American Progress, said Steyer has “got the right skill set, the understanding and attitude to lead an energy transformation in this country.”

“I think he would be a fabulous choice for energy secretary,” Podesta added, “and I’ve let my friends in the administration know that.”

The puff piece was written by the WaPo’s Juliet Eilperin, whose husband (Andrew Light) is a senior fellow on climate/energy issues at the Center for American Progress.

Eilperin (again) failed to disclose this screaming conflict.

One can easily imagine that Podesta told Light to get his wife to write a puff piece to improve the odds for Podesta’s dark horse billionaire buddy.

  1. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

  2. Oh my gosh! I guess WAPO now believes that there are conspiracies (well, at least one) between major media and the Left that seriously bias major media’s writing about climate issues.

  3. I doubt he had to tell her.

  4. The whole tribe is as rotten as a black banana.

  5. Much more rotten than a black banana, oldfossil. As rotten as a propaganda photo of fake black soot-laden coal smoke, like this one:

  6. Black bananas are wonderful. Freeze, run under warm water to loosen the peel, chop, blend the pieces — voila, instant ice cream (substitute)! Delicious, can easily be flavoured with your favourite additive.
