Here in the US we have the Banking Secrecy Act, which inter alia requires that information on bank accounts to be turned over to the Feds.
I never worried about the privacy of my medical records until a few years ago, when politicians started talking about privacy of medical records.

In my medical research, I absolutely make sure that any patient PHI (Protected Health Information) is obfuscated, protecting the patient’s right to privacy. The IRBs (Institutional Review Boards) review my protocols and research methods to ensure that right to privacy is protected in my use of patient data in research. Yet, doctors are now required to turn PHI over to politicians, the people least trustworthy in protecting the patient’s rights, without any of the scrutiny I’m held to. Where’s the sanity in that?
