  1. In my medical research, I absolutely make sure that any patient PHI (Protected Health Information) is obfuscated, protecting the patient’s right to privacy. The IRBs (Institutional Review Boards) review my protocols and research methods to ensure that right to privacy is protected in my use of patient data in research. Yet, doctors are now required to turn PHI over to politicians, the people least trustworthy in protecting the patient’s rights, without any of the scrutiny I’m held to. Where’s the sanity in that?

  2. Just don’t do it. Wink wink. Jail is better than betrayal of trust.

    • For a doctor who adheres to the Hippocratic Oath, yes.

What I may see or hear in the course of the treatment or even outside of the treatment in regard to the life of men, which on no account one must spread abroad, I will keep to myself holding such things shameful to be spoken about.
If I fulfill this path and do not violate it, may it be granted to me to enjoy life and art, being honored with fame among all men for all time to come; if I transgress it and swear falsely. may the opposite of all this be my lot

  3. Well spoken Sir !!!

  4. I never worried about the privacy of my medical records until a few years ago, when politicians started talking about privacy of medical records.

  5. Here in the US we have the Banking Secrecy Act, which inter alia requires that information on bank accounts to be turned over to the Feds.
