NY Poised to Pass First Gun Bill Since Sandy Hook Shooting

“The tentative agreement would further restrict New York’s ban on assault weapons, limit the size of magazines to seven bullets, down from the current 10, and enact more stringent background checks for sales. Other elements, pushed by Republicans, would refine a mental health law to make it easier to confine people determined to be a threat to themselves or others.”

  1. The NYPD published a study that showed “hit rates” in gunfights – the rates at which fired bullets actually hit their targets – was 30% in 2005 and 34% in 2004. So with a clip size of 10, a NYPD Officer could expect to HIT an armed assailant 3 times.

These are TRAINED LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS. That’s why I need a clip that holds 30 rounds. I want to HIT the 3 armed gang members coming at me MULTIPLE TIMES.

  2. In other words, the so-called sensible laws we already created don’t work so lets make some more less sensibles ones that won’t work either. At least we’ll succeed in showing those law abiding responsible gun owners that we mean business.

  3. A magazine limit of 7 rounds affects nearly *all* rifles and pistols. And then there’s the standard 10 rounds in a .22 revolver.

The smart thing to do, which everyone can agree on, is to make it totally illegal to commit murder, and have like really big penalties for murdering. That would work, we should demand action!

  4. New York State and City already can’t enforce the laws they have. We see again the goal of harassing and stigmatizing the good citizens with a measure that will leave criminals fully armed. Good plan, that.
