US navy will dismantle minesweeper stranded on coral reef; Faces fines for eco-damages from Philippines gov’t

“Philippine President Benigno Aquino III said last week that the US navy must explain how the ship got off course. He said the navy would face fines for damaging the environment.” [The Guardian]

Pure insanity. A waste of a $277 million ship — of a class that the Navy already claims is in short supply. You’d almost think these were school administrators for the lack of judgment involved.

  2. The US Navy is supposed to be better than this at floating boats. Find the bastard who rammed the reef and make *him* pay the fine.
