‘Quite simply, Sydney is melting today’

There will be no windmills providing air conditioning. Fossil fuels will make Sydney bearable.

“Sydney, Australia’s largest city, posted its highest temperature ever recorded today, reaching 45.8 degrees Celsius (114.4 degrees Fahrenheit), as wildfires burned in five of the nation’s states, destroying homes.” [Bloomberg]

  1. I would be interested to know what conditions caused a measurement spike of 3 + degrees C (6 F) from their previous plateau of 42.3 / 42.5 which was slightly less than the 1790 previous highs of 42.8. Unique pressure system? Asphalt? It would be a given that there is no wind for wind power.

Anyone asking themselves what good following Julia Gillard has done?

  2. Large fires start to create their own weather. Is this happening in Australia? I’m just wondering.

  3. H’m. 114.4F. I used to live in Tucson and travel to Phoenix. I’ve seen 117F in Tucson and 122F in Phoenix. I used to go running in 106F. And if it’s Sidney, it should be a dry heat.

  4. And if anyone’s in really seious trouble, I have a helicopter that can act as a ceiling fan, if they just like to come out onto their roof.
