JP it’s the invoking of the Nazis that introduces more, unnecessary emotional content into an already inflammatory subject. There is no reason to say “Oh, we beat the Nazis, the NRA will be a snap.” Where on earth is the comparison?
And that statement alone just denotes the war element of this issue, which – again – was unnecessary. Schieffer’s seen better days. This was not one of them.
We can read. We can interpret, too.
He’s not comparing the NRA to nazis– learn to read people… he said there have been more daunting tasks, like taking on the Nazis then it is to take on the gun lobby? My Lord, where did you people take reading comprehension?
Schieffer needs to realize that Dan Rather was able to change the CBS news motto all by himself. It became “See? B.S.” on his watch.
But when Conservatives juxtapose photos of Hitler surrounded by children to Obama surrounded by children, and Hitler’s bio being almost carbon copy to Obams’s (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcjw6MFgQuY) WE get flak? Why is Schieffer still on any channel delivering “news”?
Sounds like an application of Godwin’s Law is in order. Schieffer has no valid argument, so he starts the Nazi name-calling.
Bob Schieffer is probably old enough to think about retiring. His thinking is becoming somewhat muddled (even more so than usual). Anyway, he can dream, along with all the other communists in the media. Guns are not going away. They are an important part of American culture, and do provide a feeling of security to many people. Like any other human device, they can be used for good or evil. The root of the violence problem is something much deeper than access to guns. Much of it is the direct result of liberalism, e.g., no fault divorce, broken homes, unwed mothers, fascination with sexual promiscuity, the end of traditional marriage, homosexual integration into elementary schools, moral relativism, cultural diversity, multiculturalism, Marxism, denial of God’s existence, and many other factors. Almost all of these elements are or have been important aspects of the liberal agenda. The political left fails to see how their ideals of “fairness and equality” have contributed to the degeneration of American culture. Almost all of the violence and murderous attitudes of present day America can be attributed to the evils of excessive liberalism. i.e., communism. The thought processes of Schieffer and many others stems directly from their association with liberal causes. Their mistaken aims towards a better world are mostly the journey along the lines of a fools mission. Hatred, envy, racial bigotry, and the decline of American society into a jungle of vice is mostly the fault of mistaken liberal thinking. Schieffer is just one among many.
It’s a stretch to say that Schieffer is comparing the NRA to Nazis. He is calling for the NRA’s defeat, yes, but that’s as far as I’ll go along.
Here’s the thing: civil rights legislation and defeating the Nazis were about enlarging liberty. Gun control is about reducing it. Mr. Schieffer seems to be missing that point.
It was tight gun-control laws in Germany that facilitated the Nazi’s coming to power and staying there so long. It was the exercise of the 2nd Amendment in the US that inhibited Japan from invading the US.
