WashTimes: Light bulb ban on horizon

“Future dims for the survival of cheap, reliable illumination.”

“A 310-page masterpiece of micromanagement, the law was promoted heavily by then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, San Francisco Democrat, and signed by President George W. Bush. The bill was driven by a consortium of manufacturers that stand to profit from forcing people to buy more expensive bulbs and fixtures, plus the environmental lobby, which likes to pretend government regulations can lower the planet’s temperature.” [Washington Times]

  1. Nothing new. Governments strive for greater dominance until their subjects revolt. England had window tax until it had to be abolished due to a dangerous level of unrest.

  2. Energy control. Health control. Livelihood control. Speech control. No wonder they’re after gun control again.

  3. It is a delusion to believe that ‘government’ can create anything positive. The main tools of government are taxes (which bleed resources from productive applications), regulations (which impose additional requirements that lead to the diversion or less efficient application of resources) and outright bans (which prevent productive application of resources).
You can’t make a computer run better by randomly soldering in resistors.

  4. In the summer people mostly had very few lights on…..they create heat….but in the winter lts lots of lights on……heat plus illumination….in the cooler months in the northern part of the world….more so in the fall and spring….even cool nights in the summer the lighting alone keeps the furnace from a cycle….so where is the saving???….in money and heating fuel???

  5. OH!

We allready have this ban on the old style light bulbs here in Europe.

Funny thing is, that the EU has inposed a import toll fee/tax on low- energy lamps from China and so on, to “protect the industries in Europe” (mainly Osram and Philips).
Even funnier is that Osram and Philips has all their manufacturing of LEL:s in…

    Taadamm!

    China!

So- all it means is that it gets more expensive for the consumer.

  6. They, the governments of America, Britain and the EU, no longer care what the people think. No lie is too brazen for employ to meet their designs, because they now control, the courts, law enforcement officers, and much of the media.
The change from democracy to despotism has been ruthless and swift, and is probably now irreversible. I blame my own generation, those of us born during the Second World War, for we allowed it to happen.
It began by stealth, imposing restrictions on our freedoms, ‘for our own good.’ First they made it a crime not to wear a crash helmet while riding a motorcycle, yet who could we harm or injure, except ourselves.
Like sheep we complied, and repeated the mantra, it’s for our own good.
They followed with the wearing of seat-belts in cars, ‘for our own good’.
With thousands of CCTV cameras monitoring our every move and even fining us for minor transgressions, ‘If you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear.’ We allowed it. But, by then they owned the police, prosecution service and the courts, for us in Britain, we left it too late to say,
“No! We will not allow you to remove our freedom. Is it too late for American’s too?

  7. Er… might I say, it’s about time we looked at elections conducted without nominations, competitive campaigns or parties. People should vote for who they wish, without coercion or political bribery. That is the long term solution, not only for the USA, but worldwide. It is in fact the ONLY solution. It will happen eventually. I guarantee it.
