The honor now belongs to Death Valley, CA — in 1913! [WMO media release]
Just curious. But why is it that recently we keep having the “hottest July on record”, or the “hottest August on record”, etc., but the singular highest temps in so many locales seem to have occurred decades ago? Most records for anything come at the crests of the phenomena not from the low or middle ranges.
So why aren’t all the high temp records being blow away, if indeed we are having the hottest months on record? Why are so many records still in the 1930′s? Sometimes you don’t need a specialized degree, to see that something defies common sense.
A lot of the current high temps are “adjusted” temps. That tells you pretty much all you need to know.
