Follow the warming money

This might make you mad. That’s even more reason to read about it.

$1.9 million in environmental justice grants 10th May 2010 The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded $1.9 million in environmental justice grants to 76 non-profit organizations and local governments working on environmental justice issues nationwide. The grant program supports Administrator Lisa P. Jackson’s priority to expand the conversation on environmentalism and work for environmental justice.

In addition to revealing the  awards of global warming money to countries such as China, Russia, Brazil and Columbia,  a couple of very telling domestic awards are reported:

Project Title: AAAS Environmental Science and Engineering Fellowship Program
Grant ID Number: X3 – 83232801-C
Recipient Name: American Association Advancement of Science
Award Date: 07/12/2009 Cum Award: $10,476,856
Project Start: 01/09/2005 Project End: 31/08/2010

To establish and nurture critical links between decision-makers and scientific professionals to support public policy that benefits society.

Project Title: Env. Science & Engineering Fellowship Program
Grant ID Number: X3 – 83459201-5
Recipient Name: American Association Advancement of Science
Award Date: 27/03/2012 Cum Award: $4,437,241
Project Start: 01/09/2010 Project End: 31/08/2015

The proposed cooperative agreement will place professional scientists and engineers in EPA for one to two year Fellowships.

During these placements, fellows will perform activities and gain hands-on knowledge and experiences of environmental policy development under the mentorship of EPA experts.

So the EPA is funding the AAAS to To establish and nurture critical links between decision-makers and scientific professionals, in other words, to support EPA policies and it is now “educating” their members on policy development. No wonder AAAS supports the EPA on AGW.

Note that this is not research funding, this has to be money for meetings, dinners, luxury hotel accomodation, travel, propaganda etc.

  1. A few notes after a quick read-thru:

    1) According to this report, the EPA has donated roughly $65,000,000/yr to their pet projects around the world for the last “ten or so” years, roughly $1,000,000/yr of which went specifically to over-seas entities.

    2) One particular grant for $250,000 went to H. John Heinz III Center for Science, Economics and the Environment, which lists “Theresa Heinz” as one of their trustees. Others might recognize her better as “Theresa Heinz-Kerry,” Wife of Senator John Kerry (D-MA), who served in Vietnam.

    3) The bulk of the money (roughly $500,000,000) went to the National Caucus & Center on Black Aged Inc., the National Older Worker Career Center (#1 recipient at over a quarter billion), National Asian Pacific Center on Aging, and the National Association for Hispanic Elderly.
