This summer could be the wettest ever, according to the Met Office, after downpours over the Bank Holiday weekend.
The national forecasting service said summer 2012 is already in the top 20 wettest years and likely to be in the top ten.
With downpours expected on Bank Holiday Monday and more rain forecast later in the week it is possible it could be the wettest June, July and August in 100 years.
However there is hope on the horizon, with forecasts of a dry and warm September.
The worst summer on record was 1912, when 384.4mm fell across the UK.
The figures based on the National Record, that goes back to 1910, take a “true” average for the whole of the UK.
