James Murray: Could Australia sign up to Kyoto extension?

Opposition spokesman tells paper the party could break with criticism of climate change action and support so-called Kyoto 2 agreement

Not exactly James, one individual gave ”in-principle support”, pollie-speak for “I’m not giving you a rock-solid position you can throw stones at”.

Green wackos are clinging to this as at least a glimmer of hope their socialist dreams are toast.

In a surprise move, hopes have been raised that Australia could become the first non-European industrialised country to sign up to an extension of the Kyoto Protocol, after the opposition coalition offered “in principle support” to the idea.

The coalition has been fiercely critical of the Labor government’s climate change policies and opposition leader Tony Abbott has enjoyed a surge in the polls after vowing to repeal Australia’s recently introduced carbon tax.
