WE should always listen to “the experts”, just as governments insist. And then always check for ourselves.
See, only a couple of years ago “the experts” at Melbourne Water insisted on behalf of the warmist Brumby government there was no point in building a cheap dam on the Mitchell River.
It wouldn’t fill because of global warming.
This weekend, Melbourne’s dams reached 75.1 per cent capacity, their highest level in 15 years. And the Mitchell has flooded three times since.
Thing is, other experts – not employed by the government – rightly predicted the rain would again fall, but the polite media – The Age and ABC – refused to heed them.
Same thing happened with Labor in Queensland remember Tim Flannery saying and actually publishing a paper about permanent droughts in queensland. On that basis the Qld gov did not build anymore dams and 14 people were killed by release of overfilled dams.
Not forgetting the millions spent on the de-salination plant which is corroding away to a beautiful shade of rust.
Ah, seems everything Labor touches turns to …rust.
And of course the decision to not build the Travesty Dam
Last I heard that was “Traveston Crossing Dam” but I grant there were some thought it a “Travesty”
Wyaralong Dam (Traveston’s little brother) was commisioned and started retaining water just before Christmas in 2010. The original prediction (because of the recent drought conditions) was that it would take approximately 3 years to fill to it’s 130,000 Ml capacity. 24 days later it overtopped. It remains full and there are now plans to put a mini hydro scheme on it. Shame Traveston isn’t being built too.
