Conservationists say they are voicing legitimate concerns about the future of the Great Barrier Reef, despite Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney arguing some groups were spouting emotional claims about “environmental Armageddon”.
Mr Seeney yesterday called for an end to “silly political claims about environmental degradation that inevitably greet any new development proposal – spurious claims that assert everything from the imminent death of the Great Barrier Reef to the mass extinction of every species anywhere in the vicinity”.
Mr Seeney did not name what groups he had in mind, but has previously criticised GetUp and Greenpeace over an advertisement placed in Financial Times Asia warning of the risks of investing in Galilee Basin coal projects.
