Andrew Bolt: These people are in charge of our power prices?

BoltA & Tim Blair on the Aussie Govt’s shameless green staking of the “independent authority” recommending “greenhouse gas cuts” and power pricing:

What a shameless stack:

THE Federal Government has announced the make-up of the independent authority that will recommend how fast Australia cuts greenhouse gas emissions under its controversial pollution price regime. …

Former Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) governor Bernie Fraser was appointed chair of the authority in mid-2011 and seven other board members have been named.

They include serving RBA board member Heather Ridout, well-known academics Clive Hamilton and John Quiggin, public sector economist Lynne Williams, businessman John Marlay, AustralianSuper chair Elana Rubin and climate scientist David Karoly.

The country’s chief scientist, Ian Chubb, is an ex-officio member of the authority.

What a collection of extremists, Leftists and fellow travellers. Only one scientist among them, and about as alarmist as you could find.

The most alarming inclusion is Clive Hamilton.  Exactly how drastic must be the cuts to our emissions and hike in our power bills to satisfy a man who writes:

Very few people, even among environmentalists, have truly faced up to what the science is telling us. This is because the implications of 3C, let alone 4C or 5C, are so horrible that we look to any possible scenario to head it off, including the canvassing of “emergency” responses such as the suspension of democratic processes.

And:

We can only avoid catastrophe – including millions dying in the Third World – if we radically change the way we in the rich countries go about our daily lives. Above all, we must abandon our comfortable belief in progress.

This man is advising on how much cheap electricity we can have? You have got to be joking.

Clive Hamilton, John Quiggin and David Karoly, among others, are appointed to the government’sClimate Change Authority. Which means to say that these greenscreamers will have a say over your future power prices.

This should be fun. Power expert Quiggin doesn’t know how a Prius works even after driving one, so he’ll be great value. And considering how deeply political are these three – Hamilton ran for the Greens in a comically doomed 2009 by-election – this line is adorable:

The Australian Greens hope the authority will “depoliticise” the fraught process of setting emission reduction targets.

Oh, absolutely! Nothing depoliticises a process better than appointing bossy academic leftists.
