Trevor Butterworth: Mayor Bloomberg’s Soda Ban: Why It Won’t Work

In The Daily Beast: It is hard to think of a better way to turn soda into a symbol for intrusive, meddlesome, government than to have a humorless billionaire poking his finger of disapproval into one’s daily life and arbitrarily saying “your cup shall not runneth over 16 ounces!”

  1. Yet at the same time it will still be absolutely fine to go to your local pub and get a pint or larger of beer……..for now!

  2. Liberty: 1. freedom from arbitrary or despotic government or control

16 ounces is arbitrary. Bloomberg is a tyrant. It is that simple.

  3. This is Bloomberg kissing Michele Obama’s —. You can’t tell people what to eat or drink. If banned in NY they will go to New Jersey or buy that soda machine and make their own. Stupid liberals are really dangerous.

    • A tyrant can tell people what to eat and drink — look up medieval and Renaissance “sumptuary laws”. A free people should be ridiculing this idea to its destruction, but the people of New York have been voting in petty tyrants for decades. That includes their city council members.
A decent mayor and a decent city council would realize that they are the citizens’ servants. New York votes for people who wish to be their masters.

  4. So, I will buy two. Pfft!

  5. So I will just buy two! Idiot eastern liberals!

  6. Nah, changed my mind…I will just stay the hell away from that hell hole New York!

  7. Yet one more reason not to go to New York.

  8. I believe New York is not what it used to be? Although, come to think of it, it never impressed Mr Bukowski, even then.
