Terence Corcoran: A peek into Bruce Lourie’s Ontario world of green political networks

Parker Gallant, the former bank executive who looked at his Ontario electricity bill and didn’t like what he saw–and then launched  our Ontario’s Power Trip series–has just posted a fascinating summary of the political and green industry connections juggled by Bruce Lourie. 

Mr. Lourie, you may recall, is the co-author of the junk science book Slow Death by Rubber Duck. His co-author was Doctor Rick Smith, head of Environmental Defense, the Ottawa-based manufacturer of health scares and environmental anxieties.

Anyway, Parker’s piece focuses on Mr. Lourie’s various connections up and down the green lobby. Here’s a sample:

The names; Trillium Foundation, the Ontario Power Authority, Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment, the Ivey Foundation, Environmental Defence, Consultative Group on Biological Diversity, Green Energy Act Alliance, the Sustainability Network, Greening Greater Toronto, Tides Canada, Canadian Energy Efficiency Alliance, Consultative Group on Biological Diversity, Environmental Defence and Premier McGuinty’s; Climate Change Advisory Panel amongst many others are all connected by one individual. That individual is Bruce Lourie who either claims he founded some of the above or sits in a position of authority either as a member of the Board, the Chairman or as an adviser.
