So only after they’ve ignored years of warnings, shocking polls, economic data, the news of paralysis overseas and the dictates of conscience do they – almost too late – realise the whole thing is a disaster:
JULIA Gillard’s front bench has hit the panic button over the carbon tax, with senior ministers warning it is killing the Government...Some within Labor ranks are adamant they should move to a floating price or emissions trading scheme faster or boost compensation, while others are touting Greg Combet as a leadership option.
“The carbon tax is killing us,” said a senior minister who voted for Ms Gillard in the last leadership ballot…
Tensions have also emerged within Cabinet ranks, with senior ministers accusing powerbroker Bill Shorten of leaking details of Cabinet deliberations and shifting in his support for the PM.
Contacted by the Sunday Herald Sun, Mr Shorten denied both claims.
Whatever the pain, and it will be huge, Labor has to scrap the tax before it comes in. Otherwise it will not just kill jobs and drive its vote down even further, but will hang around its neck a lepers’ bell that will sound for a generation.
But, hey, guys, why not ignore this like eveything else you’ve ignored about a useless tax that will hurt us all without doing a single thing to “stop” global warming?
