Note to AEP: greenie appeasement never works: “Energy giant American Electric Power is disputing an environmental group’s study that finds air pollution from the company’s 26 coal-fired plants caused as many as 3,200 deaths and more than 20,000 asthma attacks last year.”
The analysis done for the New York-based Natural Resources Defense Council also estimates that the pollution emitted by AEP plants, two of which are in Oklahoma, led to more than 1 million lost work days and lists the economic toll as high as $24 billion in 2011. It accuses the Columbus, Ohio-based electric company of using its wealth to promote laws designed to stop or delay the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency from cleaning up the air.
A spokesman for the company expressed skepticism about the accuracy of the study.
“You can use statistics to prove or disprove anything you want, and to be honest with you, we pay little attention to these reports put out by environmental special interest groups like the NRDC,” said Pat D. Hemlepp, director of corporate media relations for AEP. “… We have worked closely with NRDC on a number of initiatives, and we are disappointed they have taken this tack to focus only our company.”
Hemlepp said the company has invested more than $7 billion since 1990 to work on reducing sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions at its plants.
In Oklahoma, AEP operates two 473-megawatt coal-fired power plants at its Northeastern Station in Oologah. The plants are run through Public Service Company of Oklahoma, an AEP subsidiary.
Last week, in a move hailed by environmental groups, an agreement was announced between Oklahoma and the EPA that would retire one of the plants by 2017 and install pollution controls on the other until it is retired by 2026. The deal came in response to a lawsuit state Attorney General Scott Pruitt filed against the EPA after the agency rejected a state plan to reduce regional haze at national parks and wilderness areas, including the 59,000-acre Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge in southwestern Oklahoma.
The NRDC found in its 12-page study that AEP’s power plants “dumped nearly 1 million tons of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and soot into the air, along with nearly 190 million tons of industrial carbon dioxide.” It called on the company to invest a portion of the $5 billion in profit it made between 2008 and 2010 to clean up or replace dirtier plants with clean alternatives.
AEP must have retirees that would have preferred to finish a little higher in AEP than they did. So they & others could start an Eco-nazi-LIKE group, like, imo, NRDC (only COMMITTEE, rather than “council”), to sue and counter-sue the Real Eco-nazi groups that are making AEP’s life a business-Hell. The Communists were stopped from seizing Germany, post-WWI, by first Frei-Korps ex-soldiers fighting them in the streets of Germany, and in the Weimar Era, by Nazi-thugs of the SA who beat-down, literally, the Commies. Street-fighting is what the Commies WANT, nowadays, because it is great THEATRE for the 6:00Pm News, so the “fighting” MUST SHIFT to the Courtroom. Correlation is NOT causation, so NRDC claims are no doubt specious,because how did such suddenly appear–we didn’t hear of such deaths earlier, but perhaps the Communists of the day were NOT interested in shuting-down industry, like they are today, imo. Often a group like NRDC will advance the agenda of the EPA/other bureaus, because Nobama is a Globalist, following Globalist-direction,–the BilderBORG-ers(EU-Globalists) have TOLD Nobama & Hellery to shut-down the US economy via EPA’s Regulations. When a business is driven into bankruptcy, its assets may sell for 10cents on the dollar, and so dis-organization & de-industrialization, via lost electric capacity via bankruptcy/other means is to be DESIRED by Globalists, for they WANT to destroy this country, so that our citizens demand the govt. DO something, or if our govt. has SHOWN itself, like this one, incompetant, then our people may then demand the Globalist-DREAM, Global-governance. The Commies tried to institute Global Governance after: –WWI (League of Nations), –WWII (United Nations), and after WWIII (within 10 years hence), will try to foist “Earth Governance”, trashing our superior constitution & God-given Rights. The AEP will HAVE to NOW meet the Eco-nazi groups in the courtrooms, because that is where retention of a business’ life-force/assets is NOWADAYS fought-over. To NOT fight the Eco-nazis in the courts, is to have your electric-capacity reduced, plant-by-plant, by the Regime’s bureaus, something I PRAY, against. Although Nobama will gain ANOTHER 4 years via “hacks-into” the Spanish vote-Tabulation firm, SCYTL, imo, he could be slowed by the Republicans holding majorities in both House & Senate, although some Republicans are also Globalists, like Orin Hatch, imo. Any monies given to Demon-crat candidates will work-against AEP’s future, imo.
I said 20 years ago that letting bull$hit secondhand smoke studies and death statistics go unchallenged would create a blueprint for ridiculous liability claims. Now the genie’s out of the bottle and people wonder how it got that way. What the ECO-nazis can’t achieve through regulation and legislation, they will accomplish through the courts with piles of junk science studies and prejudiced statictical analysis.
I would ask for a coroners report on each of the deaths, and medical records for the air breathing damaged people.

I, in Horror, fully agree with your comment! What do you think of AEP-donated, but not linked, “eco-groups” to possibly (AEP wouldn’t know) fight THEIR tormenting ECO-GROUPS…? Unless he’s changed, Soros generally gives a non-profit $50K or so…ONCE! From then on, the funded eco-nazi non-profit subsequently has to be self-sustaining via solicitations. So if AEP could give their “boys”, –several “boys”, $100K plus…Soros would have to maybe “pony-up” again, which will take the fun out of it, for him, although he’ll never spend what-all he has. Companies are simply NOT “set-up” to do dirty-tricks, LEGAL dirty-tricks, even via 3rd parties, so AEP will probably crash & burn, unless Congress can “investigate current Racketeering against Energy providers via litigation”…imo…
