“James Hansen Explains Why He Must Be Outspoken About Climate Change”

I guess the only thing better than self promotion is having someone else promote your self promotion. And we agree Hansen should be exposed:

This video is well worth a watch, especially if you are not yet familiar with NASA climate scientist James Hansen and his work.

In the video, shot earlier this year for his TED Talk, James Hansen explains why he feels he must speak out at every opportunity about what he has found out about climate change. He starts off by posing the question: “What would you do, if you knew what I know?”

Hansen talks about his involvement in climate science over decades, and explains his understanding of the now overwhelming and clear evidence that climate change is happening.

  1. Fine, he can talk about it all he wants. Fire him from GISS and then he can talk all he wants on his dime. He should not be allowed to use the NASA label to lend any sort of accuracy to his work, of which there is none to very little.

Advocacy is by nature subjective and biased (toward the advocates viewpoint). Science is poorly served by advocacy. Rather it is advanced by objective and stringent challenge at every turn until we arrive at a valid explanation of observed phenomena. Hanson has every right to express his opinion as often and strongly as he wishes but his audience should be reminded that without due consideration of the challenges to and discrepancies in his analyses, they do not form an adequate basis for policy making.

  3. What is his carbon footprint. Does he pay carbon offsets for his flying around? Does his house have solar panels or solar hot water heaters. What kind of car does he drive? What car do his grandkids ride in? Will his house be underwater, if the sea level rises like he says?
