Agenda 21: Arizona close to passing anti-UN-sustainability bill

Arizona lawmakers appear close to sending to Gov. Jan Brewer a tea party-backed bill that proponents say would stop a United Nations takeover conspiracy but that critics claim could end state and cities’ pollution-fighting efforts and even dismantle the state unemployment office.

A final legislative vote is expected Monday on a bill that would outlaw government support of any of the 27 principles contained in the 1992 United Nations Rio Declaration on Environment and Development, also sometimes referred to as Agenda 21.

Senate Bill 1507 was passed by the state Senate last month and received an initial House affirmation Wednesday. It is sponsored by state Sen. Judy Burges, R-Sun City West, who also sponsored a state birther bill that Brewer vetoed last year.

“The bill is designed to protect the rights of Arizona citizens and prevent encroachment on those rights by international institutions,” Burges told msnbc.com in an email. “We have three branches of government and when one branch preempts the process through executive orders, the balance of power is lost in the process. It is that simple — no more, no less.”

Outlawing government support for the 27 principles in the Rio Declaration would bring government to a standstill. This is because the declaration is intended to cover anything that local, state, and federal government might do. The draft law can be found at:

The law basically blocks anything that looks ‘Rio-ish.’ For instance, depending on your standpoint, both permitting and preventing fracking could be called Rio-ish. The purpose of the law is laudable, but enforcing it credibly and consistently would be a legal nightmare.

  2. I work in Safety, and now thanks to OSHA, we have to start to restructure some of our programs to comply with Chapter 19 of Agenda 21. Arizona is a Fed OSHA state so they cannot actually refuse to comply with those standards. The States are unfortunately boxed in on this, the only way to stop it is on the Fed level.

  3. All US citizens need to understand the bipartisan effort to remove ICLEI from ordinances, laws, and general plan legislation. UN Agenda 21 and US Smart Growth programs are diverting Property Taxes from City and State funds and are robbing property owners of the rights that run with land ownership.

The US Smart Growth programs have been improperly implemented and need to be fixed as soon as possible.

You’ll find ICLEI in the following Arizona locations:
    Chandler
    Flagstaff
    Goodyear
Peoria
    Phoenix
Tempe
    Tucson

You’ll find ICLEI in the following Countries and US locations:

  4. Eric is probably right about the enforcement aspects of this in many circumstances, but this is a great start; and if it doesn’t start at the state level it will never be done at the federal level.

  5. The smart way to get rid of Agenda 21 is for the US to get out of the UN and get the UN out of the US. Based in the lack of motivation by our elected servants it looks like the individual states are going to have to reclaim our soverign rights.
