THE Coalition says it will ensure electricity prices go down once it repeals Labor’s carbon tax in government.
Opposition climate spokesman Greg Hunt said today a Coalition government would give the ACCC a mandate “so the amount of the carbon tax which is added to electricity bills should come straight off it”.
Mr Hunt said electricity prices were already soaring around the country and adding a carbon tax from July 1 this year “makes no sense”.
“We will make sure that the (Australian Competition and Consumer Commission) has a mandate,” Mr Hunt told Network Ten’s Meet The Press.
“There should be no excuse for the retailers failing to pass on the reduction as part of the carbon tax being removed.
“We will remove a carbon tax and that amount will come off electricity bills.”
