Tonight on a special April Fools edition of 60 Minutes,

Dr. Robert Lustig, a pediatric endocrinologist at the University of California, believes the high amount of sugar in the American diet, much of it in processed foods, is killing us…

  1. Montana has a serious DUI problem, the fatality rate is unacceptable. I’m not certain where they rank among the “57 states” but too high. All credit to the people of Montana as they are tackling the problem, stiffer laws, more check points and law enforcement, MADD infomercials and an explosion of “Tavern Taxis” across the state. To say their efforts are commendable is probably an understatement.

With that in mind consider this. A new activist group has surfaced in Montana and they are flashing their message across the state’s TV screens regularly. They are warning the good people of Montana about the horrific dangers of —–”sugery soft drinks!” Their name is “NAPA”, I am wondering how long it will take the national automotive parts retail chain to file a lawsuit over the name infringement, but I digress.

They picture popular soft drinks and show an unfavorable comparison of suger content with a dinner plate full of those “horrible verbotten” sugary treats, donuts and long johns. The first image is of an aluminum can with an unrecognizable label that reads “energy drink”. Now the can is the same diameter as a regular 8 oz soft drink can but it appears to be about 12 or 14 inches long (20-24 oz). Most energy drinks that I see on sale are about 3-4 oz and horrribly expensive. Next they compare them to a choclate milk that is probably about a normal serving size. Last but not least, they show a latte that appears to be about the size of a two liter pop bottle. When you go for your next latte, be sure to order the two liter size.

  2. Regarding sugar, I gave up adding sugar as well as salt 20 years ago.. sure its toxic, what has taken you so long to make people aware of sugar and potential health problems, unless you were a sugar junkie and just realized it is not good for you, Hello!! This is what should have been said after scaring people half to death about the consequences of sugar.. talk about sugar substitutes, like agave etc. you only told half the story..it would be nice in the near future to make people aware of sugar substitues and even further down the line talk about the negativities of salt as well as what is lower in sodium like sea salt, kosher salt, Hello!!!

  3. “Another fatal acccident today left 6 dead and two hospitalized. Sugar contents in the stomac are to blame.”

  4. This better be a joke. Sugar, rather sucrose, is needed for cells. Great. More health scares.
