U.N. leaders consider world tax

And no matter what pretty ribbons they attach, claiming some high moral purpose, the correct response is “only when you pry the gun from my cold dead hands”. Absolute no to UN supranationalism

The money to fund these services may come from a new world tax.

“We will need a modest but long-term way to finance this transformation,” stated Jens Wandel, Deputy Director of the United Nations Development Program. “One idea which we could consider is a minimal financial transaction tax (of .005 percent). This will create $40 billion in revenue.”

“It is absolutely essential to establish controls on capital movements and financial speculation,” said Ambassador Jorge Valero, the current Chairman of the Commission on Social Development. He called for “progressive policies of taxation” that would require “those who earn more to pay more taxes.”

Valero’s speech to the forum focused on capitalism as the source of the world financial problems.

  1. oops, sorry, did i say no? .. i meant HELL NO!

  2. High hopes for the UN. It probably won’t come to pass. If it does, well, bye bye Blackbird, er – United Nations.

  3. Ala Scarface, “Say hello to my little friend”!

A tax of .005 percent is so small that it seems nearly reasonable. Something much more alarming is arming the UN with $40 billion in revenue, annually we presume, to pursue unwise and destructive policies. Of course the tax will have the support of undeveloped nations, various dictatorships, and others who envy the prosperity and power of developed nations so much that they want those nations pulled down and rent asunder to their own level of poverty and misery.

  5. Considering they have no way to enforce it and no tax collectors, even if they decide to do it, how are they going to enforce it? They can’t even stop Iran from building Nukes or Syria’s Assad form butchering pro-democracy demonstrators. The UN is the most ineffectual villain you people can howl over!
